Ellie: "Uggghhh! Mommy! Why it keeps doing that?!"
Me: "It'll turn off in a second, baby."
Ellie: "I tryin to watch Doc McStuffins and it keeps going away!"
Me: "It's called an Emergency Alert"
Ellie: "Why is it doin that?! It's too loud!"
Me: "It's just telling us that the rain is really, really bad."
Ellie: "....... we already know that."
We're in a full on major storm event over here. Our little area of Katy has gotten about a foot of rain since 10pm last night. My poor husband was up all night trying to keep the damage to a minimum. We've got water in the garage and water in the walls, dripping down into a little puddle by the backdoor. It seems to be going right through the light switch panel so we aren't turning on those lights in case the electrical system is wet.
Thankfully the kids mostly slept through it. All schools are canceled. Monday is my grocery shopping day and I guess I won't be out doing that. Looks like I'll be thawing some things from the freezer.
Aside from that, we had a really, really great weekend. I got to see my sister and her family - they were in from Austin and we spent about 4 hours together on Saturday. I came home from that and found my husband installing a light fixture above the breakfast table. I bought it 9 months ago and we never got around to installing it. We installed that one and also one above the dining room table. Here's my view from my desk right now:
And here's the new breakfast room lantern:
It came with glass panels to go around the lantern but for right now we decided not to put those in because that seemed like a pain in the you-know-what to keep clean. Grant also built me some shelves in the laundry room this weekend and I feel so happy and organized in there that it also makes me want to do laundry.
Alright. We're gonna hunker down and toast up some Eggo waffles over here and put cinnamon and sugar on them because we are a household that loves gluten.
You stay dry, Texas.
