I am thrilled to announce that tomorrow night is the Golden Globes! Not only is it the Golden Globes, but it's the Golden Globes hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Pohler!
I LOVE award shows. Love them. And it's a bit of a tradition here at Jen the Newlywed to document the red carpet fashions and discuss them after each award show. Tomorrow night shall be no different. It's been awhile and I am READY.
To get you psyched up, here's the post from last year's Golden Globes:
Red Carpet Recap: Golden Globes 2013
So get out your double sided tape, heels, and your jewel toned evening gowns and come back tomorrow night for the recap!

We're Wild People
This household is just gettin' all wild and crazy and out of control. We are knocking things out and taking names in 2014. We are rebellious and we are standing up for ourselves.
Or maybe I'm just trying to make us sound more exciting than we really are.
The thing is, like most married couples, there have been a few times in our blessed union that we have decided to get ourselves on a budget. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
We're approaching it from a different perspective this time around. We are not going to focus so much on not spending so much money (which is obviously important) but we are going to focus on SAVING money. Isn't that a novel idea?!
Basically, we're making cuts. We're getting rid of the unnecessaries. And I'm not going to lie, y'all. Some of that is kinda scary. Some of it's easy.
I'm stopping my magazine subscriptions because, let's be honest, I'm never really sitting down and reading a magazine. I'm just paying for someone to mail me something that ends up being thrown away. On the technology front, we've been paying an absurd amount of money for bad wireless service that we've been unhappy with for a long time. Turns out, we can get out of our contract for free because their stats show that 1 out of every 10 calls that I make is dropped. Seriously. So, we switched carriers and Grant is hopping onto his company's wireless plan. Grant ended his golf membership and I am collecting items that I plan on selling in a garage sale. I've started using Amazon Mom for some of our frequent household purchases. Honestly, we have already seen some big impact which shows just how lazy we have been when it comes to this kind of stuff.
But here's the scary part:
We might cancel cable.
Let's have a moment of silence.
Seriously. Stop whatever you're doing and consider the gravity of this decision with me. Breathe deeply. Close your eyes. Take it all in. Say a little prayer for me.
CAN WE JUST HAVE A MOMENT ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE MY PRECIOUS TELEVISION AND ALL OF THE PROGRAMMING THAT IT OFFERS ME
Okay. Okay. Okay. The plan is that we would use Amazon Prime/ Hulu/ Netflix and things of that nature to watch our shows instead of paying a small fortune for cable service. This is 90% acceptable to me.
Things that scare me:
1. Not every show we watch is offered on one of these live streaming setups. For example: The Bubble Guppies. There are no words to describe how problematic this might be.
2. There are certain shows I love to watch as they happen. Scandal is one of those shows. I don't want to watch them the next day. I want to watch them immediately.
3. Sports such as football games and golf tournaments would not be viewable. This is more of a bummer for Grant than for me, but a bummer nonetheless.
4. There will be no DVR. In the event that I am able to pick up a show such as the Oscars or the Miss America pageant on a local channel with an HD antenna, I have to be in front of the TV. No recording it and fast forwarding through the commercials if I'm running late. No rewinding. No pausing to check on Ellie.
I'd like to pause here and acknowledge the fact that this whole entire blog post is the poster child for FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS. I know this is all trivial and stupid but these are the things that we are considering as we try to save more and these things are making me a little panicky.
We can do it. We will survive. I am not a slave to my television.
But we won't have HGTV so I'm sad. It's my favorite channel to watch when I'm sick.
So basically, we are obviously taking drastic measures around here, people. If you want to give me a medal for bravery I'd be fine with that.
I'll keep y'all posted on what we decide to do. This could be a huge way to cut our monthly bills so I'm on bored with that.
But, in the words of Jessie Spano from the band Hot Fudge Sundae.... "I'm so excited!! I'm so excited!! I'm so.... (sob) .... scared...."

The Things She Eats
Oh, my munchkin girl. There was a time when she ate everything I put in front of her. When we were on spoonfed food, she loved every vegetable and happily enjoyed all of it. But that time has stopped.
And, she's eating less and less. Not in quantity, but in variety.
My only hope is that at some point she will understand negotiations and bribery and I can say things like "eat 2 bites of this and you can have a cookie" or whatever. Until then, I am doing all I can to keep her nourished and not starving. This is what I have to work with:
FRUIT
Bananas
Blueberries
Strawberries
Grapes
Peaches
VEGETABLES
Zero
Zip
Nada
No Way
BREADS
Cinnamon swirl bread
Donuts
She will eat a Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich every 7th time I offer it to her. I'm not joking. She refuses 6 times but eats it happily on the 7th.
Pancakes
Grilled cheese (she stopped eating grilled cheese about 2 months ago)
MEAT
Chicken nuggets
Hot dog (she stopped eating hot dogs about 2 months ago)
Meatballs (she stopped eating meatballs about 1.5 months ago)
DAIRY
Yogurt
Milk
SNACKS
Crackers
Cheerios
Crunchies (Cheeto-like stuff made by Gerber)
Cereal bars
French fries
Apple sauce
THINGS I WISH THAT SHE ATE
Turkey
Cheese
Macaroni & Cheese (seriously HOW IS SHE MY CHILD)
Pizza (WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER)
Eggs
Sweet potatoes
Potatoes
Green beans
Oatmeal
Tortillas
Peas
Carrots
Grilled chicken
Pasta of any kind
Tomato sauce
Ham
So, basically, I feed her the same foods on rotation and yes, I have tried whatever you are going to suggest. Lately we have gotten her to drink some V8 Fusion juice. Also, there is a YoBaby yogurt that has sweet potatoes at the bottom (gross) and she will eat that. Baby steps, people.
Hoping that some of this changes in the not-so-distant future. Oh please.

14 Goals For 2014
It is 2014. Y'all. I TURN 30 THIS YEAR.
I just need a moment to take that in. Thirty. It's like I'm almost an adult or something.
I mean this morning I caught myself wearing a robe and slippers and drinking coffee while I watched the Today show while feeding my daughter breakfast in her high chair. WHEN DID I BECOME THIS PERSON.
In all honesty, I'm not dreading it. More than anything, it's just bizarre. On my 20th birthday, Grant kissed me for the very first time. And now I'm going to be 30 and a whole heck of a lot has happened in the last decade. It does make me very excited to think of what the next decade might hold. (I'm well aware that my birthday is not till August but I'm having a moment here.)
So here we are in the year 2014. It's January 1st and it's time for me to set some goals. Maybe on December 31 I will be able to cross about 25% of these off of my list, if we're lucky.
1. Read more books.
2. Be more intentional in my friendships and relationships. I want to think of others before myself and think of ways to bless the people in my life.
3. Do more activities with Ellie throughout the week and not just stay in the house day after day.
4. PURGE. Get rid of stuff all the time. Throw stuff away. There are too many THINGS in this household and it's cluttering everything up and stressing me out.
5. Organize (this goes along with #4) and make this house more of a system. We have got to find a way to be more functional and not just throw things randomly in a closet and hope it stays on a shelf.
6. Do a load of laundry every single day. And fold it. And put it away. (The Lord can work miracles, y'all.)
7. Be more active. Find a way to get my heart rate up everyday.
8. Write. Write. Write.
9. Pray. Pray. Pray.
10. More date nights with Grant.
11. Spend less money.
12. Drink more water.
13. Keep my car clean. Because, ew.
14. Focus on my strengths more than my weaknesses. I have a tendency to hash out my flaws over and over again and compare myself to others. While I am not a super-mom who goes running everyday and feeds my child organic, mega healthy food and has a perfectly organized and well decorated home, telling myself that every day is not changing anything. Pondering on all the things I don't do well isn't helping anyone. But what I can focus on is that I love my people, I try really hard, and I'm confident that I can get better. And God is gracious. And I need to give myself a little bit of grace.
Two new books arrive on my doorstep tomorrow according to my package tracker from Amazon.com. So #1 on my list is off to a great start!
