Oh, Superbowl

I don't really care. Really, I don't. I don't follow football all that closely. The Superbowl is always fun because of all the friends and all the food. I hate to admit this, but there are some years that we go to Superbowl parties and I hardly watch any of the game at all. I'm too busy with the chatting and the queso and the crockpot meatballs.

This year, we didn't go anywhere for the Superbowl. For the first time in probably forever, we didn't watch the Superbowl with others. Grant, Ellie and I stayed home and had a chill night eating leftovers and telling Ellie that this was not a good time to watch Curious George. At one point, I did grab a handful of M&M's, because a Superbowl without munchies is like a day without sunshine.

While I missed all the chips and all the queso and all the friends and all the BBQ weenies on a toothpick and all the dips and the assorted bacon-covered glory, I enjoyed a quiet night in. I actually watched the game. Well, most of it. I spent a good 30 minutes of my night sitting on the floor in Ellie's bathroom, facing her, pleading with her to go potty. It's a very glamorous life I lead.

Here's some feelings I have about tonight's big game and all the fun that goes along with it:

1. The commercials were a bit somber this year. A few of them were depressing. Important, but depressing. There were several fun ones.... I liked the Doritos one on the airplane.... I also LOVED the Mindy Kaling/Matt Damon commercial. It literally made me laugh out loud.

2. Idina Menzel singing the National Anthem? YES PLEASE. She looked beautiful. She sounded beautiful. (Guess what? For Christmas, my parents gave me and my sister tickets to the Idina concert here in Houston in July! HOORAY!)

3. The Halftime show.....

Look, I'm not the biggest Katy Perry fan. I don't dislike her intensely or anything, but I'm just not drawn to her or her music. However, it must be said that that show was GOOD. It was entertaining, it wowed me, it involved dancing sharks. Ellie especially appreciated that part. It also involved her flying away on the "The More You Know" star.

4. Let's talk about the actual game. I was rooting for the Seahawks. They did not win. The last quarter was a little too much drama for me.

The Patriots are winning.
No! The Seahawks are going to win now! Hooray!
Oh no.. Patriots are gonna end up winning this.
Seahawks! Wow! What a catch! Just get through the next few minutes and we'll be good!
WHAT. WHY.

And then a fight broke out and it was all just very intense and everyone needed to be put in time out.

Again, it's not a thing I will lose sleep over, but as I've stated before... when big games like this are going on, I ALWAYS feel bad for the losing team, no matter who I'm rooting for. The losing team always looks so crushed.

Also, am I the only one who feels bad for the wives? I always look at the players and coaches of the losing team and think "Oh, his wife is going to have a really long few weeks."

Is that weird?

I'm weird.
