Well, We Have Some News

This morning, I was sitting at my breakfast table, drinking coffee and enjoying a few minutes to myself. I wake up before Grant and Ellie, I sit out here in the kitchen, I do my Bible study and I respond to emails and I may even write a blog or two. I was sitting out here, only about 3 minutes into my little morning, when I heard the crickets.

The stupid, stupid crickets.

Grant's alarm tone on his phone is crickets. He chose it because he hates crickets. He hates that sound. I think I've mentioned this before, but if we are enjoying a quiet evening at home and Grant hears a cricket chirping in the backyard, he will literally put on a headlamp and go outside and not come back in until that cricket has been silenced once and for all. He's very passionate about his hatred for the cricket sound. So that's what he's chosen for his wake up call, because he feels like it is certain to wake him up.

Anyways, I dread the crickets for an entirely different reason. It's like clockwork. I hear the crickets, and if the volume isn't at its absolute lowest setting, I know what happens next.

crickets, crickets, crickets.

Grant stirs.

crickets, crickets, crickets.

Grant turns off the alarm.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... and.....

"Mommmmmmyyyyy!!!!"

Wakes her up.

Every.

Time.

And, there goes my morning.

Look, it's not Grant's fault. He has to set an alarm. And it's not his fault that Ellie's room is attached to our bedroom.

Our bathroom is attached to her room too. And her room has another door that leads out to the laundry room. So basically we can't sneeze or flush toilets or brush our teeth or do laundry or anything like that without waking up this little girl.

It's no one's fault. It is what it is.

Our house has a strange layout and everything is on top of each other. And, I know I've mentioned this before, but Grant works from home, full time, and his office is next to the front door, and his office is about 10 steps from our kitchen and living room.

Just this week, he had a very important phone call for about an hour. Ellie and I had to pretty much be silent for the whole hour. You know how easy it is to tell a 2 year old to be quiet for 60 minutes? Not easy at all. It's easier for us to just leave.

However, this morning, when I heard the crickets, I had to take a deep breath.

Calm down, Jenny. Don't go into a violent rage. Deep breaths. Just a few more weeks of this... just a few more weeks.

We bought a house. We're moving.
