Red Carpet Recap: Oscars 2012

Hello, and welcome to the 2012 Oscars Red Carpet Recap! Here at Jen the Newlywed, the award shows are a big deal, and none are more of a big deal than the Oscars. It's been written in my calendar for months. Also written in my calendar for months? The Disney World trip for the twins 3rd birthday! Evan and Emmy turn THREE tomorrow and we are in Orlando for the celebration. Thankfully, babies get tired early and we were back in the hotel to catch the majority of the awards. I never fathomed that I wouldn't blog about the Oscars even though I was out of town. SO... here we are! And let's begin. We have a lot to cover :)

Angelina Jolie. I'll start with the positives. The shade of her hair is lovely and really softens her. The dress is also stunning. It seems, however, that SHE IS VERY PROUD OF HER LEG. She stood just like this the whole night.

She also did this while she was on stage presenting an award. IT WAS BIZARRE. And I'd also like to point out that her upper arms are the width of Twizzlers.

Anna Faris. Not a fan of the dress.

This is a chick from Bridesmaids and I just thought this was a very good Oscar gown.

Cameron Diaz always has a good Oscar dress. This color was unique and matched her hair!

Emma Stone seemed like she was having a ball. She looked so tall! I am not a super huge fan of the giant neck bow but all in all she was precious :)

THIS IS HOW A COUPLE SHOULD LOOK WHEN THEY COME TO THE OSCARS. ENOUGH SAID.

I REALLY like Giuliana Rancic's dress. So elegant and fun. Reminded me of the '20's.

Glenn Close looked SO PRETTY! This was a great color for her and she looked great in this dress! One of the best I've seen her on the Red Carpet....

Dear Gwyneth, I know you secretly want to be British, but we are not going to believe you as part of the Royal Family. WHY ARE YOU WEARING A CAPE? Are you the Queen? WEIRD.

Jessica Chastain. A new redhead to watch on the carpet. She looked gorgeous, rockin' the pale (HOLLA!) and this dress was so cool and different. I don't think we've seen anything like before. She looked wonderful!

I don't like when JLo wears her hair in a bun on top of her head like that. The dress was too low-cut but intricate and impressive.

Kristen Wiig has gotten a B+ to an A- for all the award shows this season. She's always right on the edge of "knocking it out of the park" but slightly misses somehow. And hey, I'm really proud of myself for throwing a sports reference into the Red Carpet Recap. For the one dude that reads this, you're welcome.

I LOVE THIS COLOR I LOVE THIS COLOR I LOVE THIS COLOR

I'm kinda loving Maya Rudolph who is KILLING IT in plum! Beautiful! And the sleeves were cool too. EXCELLENT choice, my dear!

I want to be friends with Melissa McCarthy. Hilarity.

Meryl looks so pretty in this color. SUCH a good Oscar dress for her! She's aging so gracefully and continues to do great work. However, I'm not thrilled that she won. I think this was Viola's year. Great dress though. :)

Michelle Williams looked beautiful. She was teetering on the edge of looking like a safety cone but I think she stayed on the good side.

Natalie Portman looked just lovely. The dress didn't WOW me but it was just lovely. Great dress for a presenter. And what a necklace!

Don't know who this is but I'm not sure what's happening.

I also don't know who this is BUT THAT COLOR WAS THE BEST THING ON THE RED CARPET. Oh my goodness. LOVE.

Octavia has consistently made WONDERFUL choices for the award shows all season. All of her dresses were flattering and slimming. This was no exception. I'm so glad she won :)

OSCAR. PERFECTION.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS.

This whole look is a little too futuristic for me. She's such a stunningly beautiful woman and she could've done so much more!

I thought Sandra's dress was cool!

Sarah Hyland is another girl who just "gets it" when it comes to award shows. I always look forward to see what she is going to wear.

Why did you do this? Did someone tell you to? Please fire them.

Tina Tina Tina.... love love love. She's awesome.

Oh. Oh. I REALLY needed her to win. And she didn't. And I know she is heartbroken. SHE DESERVED IT. Did you SEE the movie? My heavens. That was a Best Actress performance and this was her night. And I LOVE Meryl but that was Viola's award. So sad. As for the dress, that color is awesome, the beading is awesome (would've liked it even better if the neckline was straight across) and she is awesome.

It's midnight here and the husband is ready for me to stop typing :) Signing off from the hotel by the Magic Kingdom....

Happy Happy Friday Day

Howdy y'all! It's GO TEXAN day here in Houston. This is kinda the "kickoff" of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  Trails riders from all over the state converge into our city. It's very common to see something like this walking down a major highway:

Yes, I know that this is confirming every cliche of Texas that there is, but it's one of the many things I love about Houston :)

Things are pretty calm around here. I've had a VERY busy work week so that's been good. I've gotten a bunch of housework done. Signed a new client this week (Yay!) and I'm currently blogging while watching Ellen. It's a good day, folks :)

I'd also like to take a moment to brag about my niece, Scarlett. She won 3rd place in the Kindergarten art contest at her school. Isn't this lovely?!

I got to have lunch with Grace and Dean today. And this weekend I get to see Evan, Emmy and Olivia. Evan and Emmy are turning THREE YEARS OLD on Monday. All my nieces and nephews are getting so big!

Our little girl is getting pretty big too. I'm 18 weeks today. Feeling very blessed and thankful :)

One Liners

Grant and I went to Las Vegas last weekend.
It was wonderful.
We did a lot of walking.
My feets were killing me.
I'm gaining some serious weight.
I went to a birthday party today for twin boys and THEY ARE CUTE.
I bought a new printer/scanner/copier today for $50.
FIFTY DOLLARS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
My fave pair of jeans no longer fit over my hips.
Hello, elastic waistbands.
I got to speak at a luncheon yesterday.
It was for the Houston Children's Chorus.
I talked about how much the chorus meant to me and why I love it so much.
I hope it inspired people to donate :)
Here's a picture of that:

That man in the picture with me is Steve.
He is the founder and director of the chorus.
He taught me how to sing when I was 9.
I was honored to speak.
It was at the Junior League.
I'm not sure why, but whenever I go to the Junior League I feel like it is a requirement that I wear pearls.
Now that we know that we're having a baby girl, I've GONE CRAZY ON PINTEREST.
It's a problem.
My board called "Baby Girl Nursery" and my other board called "Baby Girl Clothes" are insane.
I am out of control.
The headbands and bows and shoes are more than I can handle.
Hooray for a baby girl!
Grant starts a new job March 1.
He took some time off in between the two jobs, so I have him home until then.
It's fun and we're doing all kinds of projects.
I love spending so much time with him.
I think he's pretty cute.

She'll Be Part Disney Princess, Part LPGA Tour Champion...

I'd like for y'all to meet our Baby Girl....

We "met" her yesterday for the first time.

She had the hiccups.

IT WAS THE CUTEST THING IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.

I love her ;)

Write it Down....

So many of my friends have told me that I need to document my pregnancy... to keep a journal of some kind. I'm not sure how disciplined I will be in that little task but I sure can blog about a few things to make sure it is documented somewhere!

Food:

Lord knows I have to start with food. I love food. I've always thought that I would be a cow during my pregnancy because of how much I love food. Believe it or not, for much of my first trimester... I didn't feel like eating anything. Nothing sounded appealing.... even my beloved carbohydrates. I would cook dinner and eat very small portions.

I have a hard time cooking/looking at/ smelling raw meat. Even walking through the meat section of a grocery store can be unbearable. It makes me feel pukey.

Things I have craved:

Pasta (duh!)
Dairy Queen ice cream cones
Chocolate Milk
Raspberry Jello (strange, I know)
Oatmeal Creme Pies
Fruit Smoothies
Arby's Roast Beef & Cheddar
Tortilla Chips
Anything with red sauce... lasagna, pizza, spaghetti, etc.

Things I have NOT wanted:

Fruit
Veggies
Steak
Fries (this is slowly entering my diet again)
Garlic
Sandwiches

Sleep:

It's getting more and more difficult to sleep comfortably. I'm usually a stomach sleeper and that is becoming increasingly awkward. I also have to get up to pee in the middle of the night so that is a lovely interruption. I'm thinking of buying one of those pillows. (Did any of you use those? Did you like it?)

Clothing:

I first noticed a bump around 14 weeks. It's definitely growing. My sister Jaclyn saved some super cute maternity clothes for me and a few weeks ago she gave me a giant rubbermaid tub. Several pairs of jeans, super cute shirts... I feel so blessed! I also went to TJ Maxx and Marshall's and purchased several shirts that aren't necessarily "maternity" shirts but they will work. I finally stopped doing the rubberband thing to my jeans and am now wearing the elastic waistbands. Not gonna lie... they are pretty comfy!

Weight Gain:

So far I've only gained about 5lbs. Can't we keep it this way?!?

Skin:

I've got some fierce acne going on right now. That is super fun.

Alright, I've got some documentation now. Whew, I feel better :)

Time for Some Videos!

Here's a few things that are making me laugh or just make me happy :)

"Dad, can I have a horse like that?" (points at a gorilla) This is long but worth the watch!

I am already obsessed with this show. They released the first episode in its entirety online and I am officially addicted!!
