You're Here

I was driving to work this morning, listening to the City on a Hill CD that I've had since about 10th grade. I've listened to it alot over the years, I know all the lyrics and all the harmonies. But this morning, the song "You're Here" by Sixpence None the Richer really got my attention. I listened to it three or four times and I was so moved. I'd love to share it with you:

"You're Here" by Sixpence None the Richer

My life is up and it is down
I try to keep both feet on the ground
Your love is all that gets me through
All I need on this earth is You

And I can hear Your voice reciting:
"I'm Here. I'm closer than Your breath,
I've conquered even death,
I am still here,
Just like I was then,
You can't remember when I was not here"

Jesus, You're the author of my heart
You told me you wanted every part
And now my life and its demands
Are resting safely in Your hands

And I can hear Your voice inviting:
"I'm Here. I'll never leave your side,
My stubborn, weary child,
I am still here,
Please let me lead you on
Your race is already won
I am your God"

"I'm Here. I'll never leave your side,
My stubborn, weary child,
I am still here,
Please let me lead you on
Your race is already won
I am..... I am.... your God"

My life and all of its demands are resting safely in HIS hands. I have nothing to worry about. Though I am definitely stubborn and I can get very, very weary, I must remember that the Lord will carry me. My race is already won.

Cypress Therapy

I went to Cypress this weekend. I feel so rejuventated!

*I got to see my parents, and they always put me in a good mood.
*I got to see my sisters, and they make me laugh so hard.
*I got to see all three of my nieces, and I kinda want to steal them all.
*I got to spend some good quality time with Lindsee.
*Sally and Lindsee and I spent 24 hours together!
*I got to go to the lakehouse, which in and of itself is therapeutic.
*I got to go to Joanna's Bachelorette/Lingerie Slumber party.
*I had some wonderful moments with my Joanna, the little bride to be.
*Sunday I spent a few hours one-on-one with my Jaclyn. I needed some chat time with her!
*I had my first true "bonding experience" with Grace, as I was her very first babysitter. We played with bows and headbands. And we sang some songs.
*Scarlett and Juliet are beginning to say little words and they are FULL of personality.
*I drank lots of sweet tea.
*Sunday I had lunch with my dad, just me and him. That is ALWAYS much needed and a treasure to my heart.
*At Joanna's party, I ate lots of chocolate.
*I now have a favorite Lindsee quote of the year: "So, Sally called. And that's why she called". (To which I answered, "I'm gonna need the middle part of that story").

Before I left for Houston, I'd been in a bit of a funk for a few weeks. I had a severe lack of motivation. I had no "umption in my gumption" as my mom would call it. I couldn't make myself move. After this weekend I feel a new boost in my spirit and I'm ready to get stuff done.

Praise God for much needed weekend retreats that put everything back together again!

On My Mind

Good Morning Readers! I'm at work right now, hoping to enjoy a pleasant, quiet morning since both of the attorneys are out of the office. They will be back after lunch, but I will be enjoying my lack of work! So here are some things that have been on my mind.

1. I can't stop watching the coverage of that missing Mommy in Ohio who is 9 months pregnant and her 2 year old was left home all alone for a day. And he keeps saying "Mommy's in the rug". FREAKY. I will be praying that they find this girl alive and that her baby is okay.

2. Sometimes I feel like your car knows when you are running late and decides to turn the gas light on at that exact moment. I left the house 15 minutes later than I usually do this morning and as I'm rushing out of the apartment complex, the light turns on. I get paranoid about running out of gas so I didn't get onto the interstate until 8:00 this morning. Yikes.

3. I'm actually dreading the Presidential Elections. Name calling, Bush bashing politicians will take over my tv, radio and newspaper for the next year. At the end of it all I have to make an educated decision, vote, and then put up with people hating the president for the next 4 years. Sounds like barrels of fun to me!!

4. Morning showers just make me want to go back to sleep.

5. Grant didn't get home last night till after 9:00. I feel bad for him. When he starts work at 7:00am and doesn't get home till after 9.... that's a long day of physical labor. Not for me. I am so thankful for my husband and how hard he works for our family.

6. I really want my wedding album to come in.

7. Sometimes at work, I sit "indian-style" in my chair. I'm sure this looks very professional and grown-up but it is much more comfortable. Besides, if I sit close enough, I don't think people can tell.

8. I also take off my shoes.

9. I miss going to Astros games.

10. My toe hurts. Yesterday I went to the kennel to pick up Moxie. When we walked out of the building, he was so excited he was running circles around me (literally) and in the confusion of it all, I kicked my foot directly into a cinderblock. My toe was bleeding. It felt really good.

11. People up here in Baton Rouge are getting REALLY excited about LSU football starting in the fall. I have no interest in LSU football. And Mike died recently. Mike is a real live tiger that has lived in a cage on the LSU campus for 17 years. And he died. The city is in a state of mourning. And I think I was almost fired when I said "Who's Mike?" to my boss.

12. And finally, I'm excited about the day after tomorrow. The day after tomorrow I get to see my mom, my dad, both of my sisters and ALL THREE of my nieces!!! Praise Jesus!

Have a wonderful day blog friends!

Grace at 6 Weeks

Grace Parker, my beautiful new niece is now six weeks old! She is smiling now! We are so very proud. Here are a few pictures..... I think she looks like her Daddy, but for the first time I think these pictures show a little bit of Jaclyn Renee in there as well!!
I do like her bracelet. She is very lady like.

She thinks that her Mommy is very funny!
I get to see this baby and kiss her cheeks in one week! Praise the Lord!

Not Ashamed....

Grant and I are going to a weekly Wednesday night Bible Study. Our Sunday School class is not meeting on Sundays for the summer because everyone is traveling so much. So we've moved the class to Wednesday night. It's really fun, and it's a good way for us to get to know more people. Plus, since I will be out of town EVERY weekend for the next MONTH, it's perfect because I am going to be missing church every Sunday.

We are studying the book of Romans. It's very meaty, haha. But already it is so relevant. This week we discussed how complacent we've become. Society, media and culture blast so many images into our minds that they become acceptable and no longer shocking. Seeing a young girl half naked or hearing the f word 14 times in one song is no longer anything to talk about. It's just there and it's just accepted. It's really sad how we've adapted to what the television tells us is okay.

Romans 1:16a says that "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes". This verse kinda jumped out at me. So often I am afraid to say what I think or believe because I know society does not agree with me, and if I say these beliefs than culture will attack me, telling me that I'm wrong and small minded. But this verse gave me confidence. I am NOT ashamed. It IS what I believe and I WILL NOT apologize for it.

I can't wait to share with you each week what God is teaching me through Romans. How exciting to know that at the end of the summer I will know so much more than I know now! :)

Today starts my month of traveling. We are leaving today for Florida for Ricky and Olga's wedding. We've got everything packed (I hope) and I'm really looking forward to a beach weekend! Grant and I are performing the song "Captivate Us" at the wedding (by Watermark) and we've been practicing. It's really cool to use our talents together. God blessed Grant with guitar skills, and me with singing skills, and together we make really beautiful music that I hope is music to His ears!!

I will post pictures. This should be a beautiful wedding and a wonderful celebration! Have a great weekend everyone!

I AM

This song, by Nichole Nordeman, gets to me in a place so deep that I wanna cry everytime I hear it. If you download music, download this song. It's a peaceful, soothing, gentle song that calms me when I am in a frenzy. This is such a crystal clear picture of who God is:

Pencil marks on a wall
I wasn't always this tall,
You scattered some monsters from beneath my bed,
You watched my team win, You watched my team lose,
You watched when my bicycle went down again,

And When I was weak
unable to speak,
still I could call You by name,
and I said “Elbow healer, Superhero, come if You can,”
and You said “I am”

Only 16,
life is so mean,
what kind of curfew is at ten pm?
You saw my mistakes,
You watched my heart break
Heard when I swore I’d never love again

When I was weak,
unable to speak,
still I could call You by name,
and I said “Heart-ache Healer, Secret-keeper,be my Best Friend”
and You said “I am”

You saw me wear white,
by pale candlelight,
I said forever to what lies ahead
two kids and a dream,
with kids that can scream
too much it might seem when it’s two am
when I am weak, unable to speak,
still I will call You by name.
“Oh Shepherd, Savior, Pasture-maker, hold on to my hand,” and You say “I am.”

The winds of change, And circumstance blow in
and all around us
so we find a foothold that’s familiar,
And bless the moments that we feel You nearer

Life had begun,
I was woven and spun,
You let the angels dance around the throne,
who can say when,
But they’ll dance again,
when I am free and finally headed home

I will be weak, unable to speak,
still I will call You by name
“Creator, Maker, Life-sustainer,
Comforter, Healer, My Redeemer,
Lord and King, Beginning and the End,
I am,
yes, I am.”

UPDATE

As an update to my previous entry, I've just read that Miss Hilton has been ordered back to prison to serve the remainder of her sentence.

I feel better.

Forgive Me

You'll have to excuse me, but I feel the need to release my feelings about Paris Hilton being released from prison. I have to say that I am quite ashamed that I care enough about the entire situation to dedicate an entire blog entry to it, but I am royally irked!!

When Paris was first sentenced to jail time, she said that she did not want any preferential treatment, but she did not want to be treated any worse. I'd say that being released from prison for "undisclosed medical reasons" is preferential treatment. To quote my dear friend Tiffany, "Since when was being a spoiled, rich, entitled brat a medical affliction??". Rumor has it that this "medical issue" was diagnosed by her psychiatrist, who says the medical issue is a mental one. Apparently he felt that she was on the edge of having a nervous breakdown. Um... yeah. It's jail. You're supposed to be crying alot.

You don't think that those women who have been in there for MONTHS have not had a nervous breakdown or two? Or three? They haven't been sent home!! And I also read that apparently there are other wings of the prison that cater to those with mental issues. Maybe she could go there.

So now she's on house arrest. She can't leave her home for forty days. Whoop-de-freaking-doo. That does not matter. All her friends will come party over at her house. She can have 80 people, including P.Diddy and whoever else she wants to come have a rave at her house if she wants to. Everything can just come to her. She can turn her home into a nightclub.

Bottom line, she just didn't like being in jail. And she wanted to go home. And her rich lawyer found a way. Clearly, justice is not as blind as it is supposed to be.

Okay, I'm done now :)

Wonderful Weekend :)

Hey there guys and gals.... the hubby and I had a splendid, relaxing, fun weekend. Friday night we went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I'm not really into that genre at all, and I didn't see the 2nd movie. It wasn't my favorite film but it was entertaining. It was about 45 minutes too long as well but it was a good Friday night movie.

Saturday we slept in and got some work done around the house. Grant was Mr. Fix-It and sanded, spackled, and repainted the floorboards that Moxie chewed when we first got him. Saturday night we went with our neighbors (Holla to the Stanleys and the Mallonees!!) to get some GOOD mexican food. Coming from Houston, it has been really hard to get some good Mexican food here in Baton Rouge. But we went to a place called Casa Maria that I will definitely be going to again. AND they had Sangria Margaritas and for that I am truly grateful.

This morning Grant and I went to church and learned about forgiveness. We learned that grace is more than enough and I am reminded once again of how imperfect I am and how beyond perfect God is. Cool stuff.

I've spent most of my afternoon doing laundry, grocery shopping, and we plan on watching a movie tonight on the couch. Should be fun. Grant and I have one more nice relaxing weekend (next weekend) and then it is travel travel travel for a month.

June 15-17 Weekend- We will be in Florida for Ricky and Olga's wedding. Grant is Ricky's best man and we are also singing/playing at the wedding.

June 22-24 Weekend- I will be in Houston for Joanna's bachelorette/lingerie shower. HOLLA! It's also my Jojo's birthday and we will be celebrating AMEN!

June 29-July 1 Weekend- Grant and I will be in Houston AGAIN for a family reunion that is non-optional. Oh joy, Oh rapture.

July 6-8 Weekend- Praise the Lord and Hallelujah- Joanna Katherine is getting married!!! John boy will officially make her a MRS. and then take her to Montana, where she will now be known as Joanna Montana!

So we have alot ahead of us but hope to be in high spirits at the end of it all. So many happy things are happening this summer and we are so glad we get to be a part of them all. Have a WONDERFUL week!
