Okay. It's been awhile since I've blogged. Things have been happening.
1. First things first. I'm sick. Like, legit, on the antibiotics and I have a fever kind of sick. I have a sinus infection and an ear infection. I didn't even know adults could get ear infections. Am I going to have to get tubes in my ears like all the toddlers of the world? I don't know. All I know is that I feel like I got hit by a truck. Grant has been following me around with hand sanitizer every time he thinks I might touch the children. I'm so thankful for him - after I clocked a fever last night he sent me straight to bed, brought me soup and then took care of the kids ALL NIGHT as Jack has been a little needy between the hours of 2 and 4 am. I think Grant slept on Jack's bedroom floor at some point last night. Thank goodness for Grammy who dropped everything and came over here this morning and fed the baby and helped me immensely as I literally was under a blanket shivering for a few hours waiting for my fever to break. I have no voice (I'm sure Grant is happy to have me stop talking for a bit) and my nose is raw from all the kleenex. It's been a real blast around here.
2. Since I went to bed last night at about 6:00pm, I alternated between sleeping and watching some shows I've been meaning to watch. I watched Grease Live which was the best live TV musical I've seen yet. It was so well done, great performances, and was much less awkward than The Sound of Music and Peter Pan. It also reminded me of all of my great performances at my family's old lakehouse where I would totally dominate "Hopelessly Devoted to You" on a karaoke machine.
"BUT.
NOW.
There's noooooooowhere to hide!"
The 14 year old version of myself would put on my headband and imagine myself wandering around a porch in a nightgown singing that song.
3. I also watched the first episode of The People vs. O.J. Simpson which was ALL KINDS OF INTRIGUING. I do remember seeing the Bronco chase as a little girl - we were over at Lindsee's house watching the Rockets game and our dads were irritated that the game was being interrupted for the chase. I knew some of the details but my parents certainly sheltered me from a lot of the more gruesome details of the case. After one episode of this show, I am certainly floored that he was not convicted. Watch the first episode, people. It's so good.
4. Last week, Grant and I took a day date to his alma mater, Texas A&M.
We spent the morning at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library which was quite interesting and educational.
We then walked around the campus and observed all the college students doing their college student things.
A few observations on that:
They were all wearing earphones as they walked around campus. All of them. Walking very fast and in a determined manner while listening to whatever they were listening to. This was really strange to see.
The girls are really adorable and in the best shape of their life.
As we walked through the MSC, Grant turned to me and told me that he just wanted to shout to everyone, "DON'T EVER LEAVE! STAY HERE FOREVER! DOUBLE MAJOR IN EVERYTHING!" When you leave college everyone makes you be an adult and being an adult is hard.
Speaking of being an adult, the highlight of our day happened when we walked out of the MSC and saw a group of athletic looking early-twenty-somethings handing out fliers to people. As we walked around them, one of the muscle boys walked up to us and extended a flier to us. "Hey guys! We're having a party Friday night, hope y'all can make it!"
That's right. The Swimming and Diving team invited these two thirty-somethings to a party.
I laughed and said "Oh, thanks! We'll bring our two kids!" and then he laughed and it was just a whole moment.
Bless it.
It really was a great day together and it was nice to spend a few hours without the kiddos. I ate a whole meal and never took anyone to the bathroom or fought with anyone about food. It was super special.
4. These two munchkin loves are still quite darling:
Today, Jack is 3 months old.
He strongly dislikes tummy time and continues to feel really passionate about eating. He's smiling and laughing more and reaching for toys and pulling hair and he's just a chunkamunk and I love him.
He's getting fuzzy hair on his head and I'm obsessed with it. I'm thankful for my little guy.
5. I haven't talked much about this because I don't like to discuss this kind of thing because I hate it, but I've been eating healthy for over a month now (NO PASTA. NO BREAD. NO DIET COKE. NO WINE.) I probably "cheat" once a week with a glass of wine at a social event but other than that I'm eating meats and vegetables and fruits. I know I'm doing what's right for a body BUT Y'ALL KNOW HOW I LOVE MY FAMILY OF CHEESE AND COMPLEX CARBS. It's felt like a death. I'm even drinking my coffee pretty much black.
However, as I mentioned before, I am sick - and today I'm thinking about cheating. I don't want to take backwards steps when I've already made a lot of progress - but I'm sick and I DO NOT WANT TO EAT A SALAD. I DO NOT WANT VEGETABLES. It's been 5 weeks of health food and fruit and lettuce and carrots and I WANT SOMETHING THAT FILLS ME WITH JOY. Queso, y'all.
What am I going to do when surrounded with Super Bowl food? Queso! Meatballs! Dip! Chips! Chili! What am I going to do?!?
6. I hadn't written in awhile because I'm lazy but also because I was having major computer issues. My computer would only power on when plugged into a power cord (which kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop) and kept telling me it was the year 2000. It was running reaaallly slow and browsing the internet or writing a blog took way longer that it needed to. Y'all should've seen me screaming at my computer trying to write my Golden Globes post. I was a real peach. Anyhoo, I took it to the Apple store and Ronnie hooked me up with a new battery and all is well and here I am.
Okay, this really has been so many words... and I apologize. I'm getting the chills again so I'm gonna shut this down.
Peace out, homies. Mucinex and I are going to go spend some quality time together.
